Customising Your Aluminium Fishing Boat: The Process

If you love fishing, your best days are spent on the water, waiting for the perfect catch. If you’re serious about your catch, having the right vessel makes all the difference.

Depending on where you live and where you most often fish, your boat must meet some unique requirements to be considered the ‘best’ for you. This is why many people choose to customise their aluminium fishing boats, to provide that extra edge of performance or comfort while setting sail.

If you’re here, you’re likely considering a customised vessel for yourself. Read on as we break down if customising a vessel is the right move for you, and explore how our luxury craft builders can work with you to enhance your enjoyment of your boat.

Why Customise Aluminium Fishing Boats?

New Zealand has a unique fishing scene, especially due to our subtropical weather. There are a variety of spots all over the country that draw avid fishers, including estuaries, rugged coastlines, our world-class lakes, and more.

While a standard aluminium fishing boat will get you a long way, if you’re out on the water every weekend, it might be worth investing in a couple of extras to make your time easier and more rewarding. Aluminium boats are well-loved for their durability and low maintenance qualities, but they’re also incredibly versatile when you partner with a company like Circa to customise your vessel.

Customising a Fishing Boat with Circa Marine

We have the capacity to customise your aluminium fishing boat completely from scratch. That said, we find most of our clients are more interested in choosing a base model and working it up to suit their needs from there.

In practice, this looks like a two-stage process:

Step 1. Pick Your Base Vessel

At Circa, we offer four aluminium fishing boats as our base models. Each one comes with a range of optional extras you can choose to create the perfect vessel for you.

  1. Circa 600: The 600 is a sleek, agile craft with a small footprint. Ideal for the solo fisher, this is compact enough for small trailers and zippy enough to get you where you need to go in good time.
  2. Circa 700: The 700 boats offer a fully lined cabin with upholstered squabs and plenty of grunt to keep you moving on the water all day long. You can easily hug the coastline or head out into blue water to chase those whoppers at your leisure.
  3. Circa 850: The 850 is another jump up in design quality, making it the ideal runner for the discerning angler, especially if you’re a deep-water fisher. Choose either an outboard or inboard model to begin.
  4. Circa 950: The 950 is the epitome of our aluminium fishing boats range, boasting twin 300hp Yamaha outboards to keep you speedy while game, deep water, or weekend fishing.

Step 2. Consult on Additions & Changes

Once you’ve selected your base vessel, we’ll sit down to talk through your customisation options and amend the base vessel’s schematics to reflect these changes for the build team.

Step 3. The Build and Sea Trials

Once the design is set in stone, we oversee the build process and make sure everything is up to standard until there’s a completed vessel waiting to be sea-tested. We take the vessel out on the water for a set of rigorous sea trials in various conditions, all to verify that the performance and safety standards are met.

Only once that’s completed will we hand over the vessel to you, ready to be deployed into your favourite fishing spots.

Your Customisation Options

If you want to explore the full possibilities, we invite you to get in touch with our team, and we’ll be happy to help.

That said, there are a few features that crop up time and again as a favourite in the fishing community, so today, we’ll be turning our spotlight there.

Features made for fishing:

Most aluminium fishing boats need the kind of gear that makes fishing easier and more enjoyable outside of the essentials. Popular options include:

  • Live bait tanks and insulated storage to keep your catch fresh.
  • Rod holders to anchor multiple points around the deck.
  • Hardtops or bimini tops to keep the rain off on grey days.
  • A freshwater washdown system to keep your deck clean as you fish (ideal if you fish in briny or brackish water).

Extras for comfort or navigation:

If you are going out on long stints or into new territory, some comfort or navigation extras you might want to consider include:

  1. Ergonomic or swivelling seating arrangements.
  2. Built-in GPS navigation and RADAR to keep you true to the coastline.
  3. Trim Tabs for ride control and comfort.
  4. Fridge for keeping food and drinks cool.
  5. BBQ or cooktop for the ultimate meals on the water.

In summary, customising your aluminium fishing boat is a well-earned initiation process into the world of serious fishing. It’s a great way to finely hone the vessel you’ll be spending your days on, all while ensuring a highly qualified team has made the changes.
