Now moured in Flamenco marina Panama. Whiskey, steak and solid ground has never tasted so good. Everywhere you look you will see pelicans and flamingos which is an incredible sight. The marina is full of your typical 50 foot sport fishing boat, boats without tuna towers and game chairs are less common than those with them. apparently on the last leg we have broken atleast one world record and have achieved a world first, not sure of the exact details but look forward to hearing them. Even though Tahiti was mainly french, the culture difference and landscape wasnt completely different to home, New Zealand. Panama however is a complete change, the main language beeing spanish and other than the tide lines on the rocks i havnt really found any similarities. In the distance you can see the jungle of sky scrapers amongst the smog of the city and in the bay there are hundreds after hundreds of every ship you can imagine all at anchor waiting to transit the canal. our last night of motoring was very hectic, dozens of ships all using the same channel going in and out, with our boat beeing less than ten percent of the size of most, we felt rather small and vulnerable. We went through quite a heavy squal head on and spent alot of the time with the windscreen covered in white wash, along with the dark of the night and the torrential rain, the radar really came in handy. Even though we are in central America and not the United States, the American customs system is intense, customs forms require finger prints and every personal detail you could imagine. Refuelling today, servicing the engine tomorow, then possibly transiting the canal on friday. Bens replacement arrives tonight and Ben leaves the crew on Friday, a tradition is starting to form so id say we will be going out tonight to 'break in' the new member. Everything is well, sleeping pattern is destroyed but the silence and stillness is bliss. i will try and upload some photos to the Blog as soon as i get a solid internet connection, should be easy enough at the marina restaraunt today.
